7 days til Benji’s 1st Birthday September 3, 2009
Big things are happening with our little guy. He’s walking now–strutting really! He’s turning around on the fly and going all over the place. We were at the beach last week and that really seemed to light a fire in Benji: he started waving and smiling at the people we’d meet in the elevator. He absolutely adored the red numbers that changed as we passed each floor. He would point to them excitedly, and look around in wonder at all the passengers as if he couldn’t understand why they weren’t as amazed as he was about those flashing crimson numerals. He loved the beach, too, and the mini water park at the hotel. He had a great time floating in the lazy river and going down the water slide. He was absolutely fearless as he crab-crawled towards the crashing waves. He is our water baby and it’s apparent that we will need to be vigilant whenever we’re around any body of water larger than a puddle.
He’s started swaying to music. He also loves to beat on things. I’m thinking we could have a drummer on our hands, rather than a guitar player! I would just be happy that he played something, I mean as long as he was into it.
We noticed while we were at the beach that he’s become an impressionist, as well. One of us went to blow our nose, and he quickly covered his nose and made a loud “pbbbtthhhh” sound. He’d been doing that for a few days, but I didn’t understand he was mimicking us until that point. Too funny!
I’m really enjoying every day with him and am sad to drop him off at daycare. Weekends are a nice time to reconnect, though. He’s growing up, but he’s still my baby.
It’s late and I’ve gotta hit the sack. Til next time…
