So, I’m Pregnant Again - 11 weeks today! January 20, 2011

We had our second doctor’s appointment today and got to hear the heartbeat but didn’t get to see anything.  Doc used a doppler device and said the hb rate was in the 160s or 170s.  My blood pressure was good: 110/70.  I’ve gained 8 lbs. already–ugh.  Same rapid weight gain as last time.  I wanted things to be different with this one, but no such luck.  The intense, all-day-long nausea made me eat and eat and eat to relieve the discomfort and here we are!  At this rate, I’m going to be over 200 lbs. by the time this is over.

Let me recount how things happened this time around.  I had a miscarriage back in September.  I was only 7 weeks at the time, and based on the ultrasound, it looked like I had a blighted ovum or the baby just failed to develop for whatever reason.  That was really hard, but I figured it gave me an opportunity to get my self together, start working out, get our finances in order, and really prepare for bringing another baby into the world.  In November, I told Brian to stay away from me during my fertile period because I wasn’t ready.  Understanding man that he is, he obliged me (thanks, hon!) and I thought nothing more about it.  However, a few weeks later when my period was due and didn’t arrive, I grew concerned.  My mind raced with negative thoughts.  Was I going through early menopause?  Was it cancer?  Did I have PCOS?  Pregnancy didn’t even cross my mind.  I’d been kind of depressed after the miscarriage, and not that eager to be intimate, so my poor husband only got lucky once, maybe twice, that month.  There was no way I was pregnant, but, I sent Brian to the store one Sunday morning to get a test.  I told him to get the cheapest kind; I knew it didn’t matter since I wasn’t pregnant.  Well, I took the test, and as soon as the urine hit the result window, there was a big blue line, meaning it was positive.  I was pregnant.  No freakin’ way!  I came out of the bathroom and said to Brian, “Holy shit.  I’m pregnant!”  We were both in utter disbelief.  Obviously, it was an immaculate conception, so I feel pretty special about being the chosen one.

Well, during pregnancy #1 we called Benji “Captain Peanut,” and I’ve dubbed this one “Hummie” because Brian says that’s what they called baby cows back in PA.  I think it’s pretty cute.  Here’s to you, Hummie!  See you in about 29 weeks!
